History

Born in the 1880's, Samuel Enoch was the child of a Jewish father and a half Albanian, half Chinese mother who was also 3/4's Irish. An avid harmonica player, at an early age he decided to set off for the city to procure his fame and fortune. Originally working as a cobbler, he also apprenticed himself out to an ironworker, a haberdasher, three men making bottlecaps, an alcoholic, and a young leper singing the works of Paganini. He was fired by all of them.
Undeterred, Enoch continued to seek his fortune by opening a chain of locksmith franchises, which was a successful venture for three days until he accidentally locked himself in the cellar. It was not all for naught, however, since after spending six days tunneling himself out, Enoch met a man, Carmine Vermicelli, who convinced him to attend barber school. Promising to not only sponsor his application to the William Thompson School of Barber Technologies and Corset Design, but to hire him upon completing half of the program, Vermicelli and Enoch forged a bond of friendship that would last for the better part of their lives.

And from there the rest is history. Enoch finshed half the program in twice the time, and was hired by Vermicelli at the San Tomasso Barbiere, and within a decade, Enoch knew half as much as he needed. It was enough, however to open his own Barbiere, and so Enoch opened Samuel Enoch's Barber Shop, and most of it is still standing today.
Fun Facts
And today Samuel Enoch's Barber Shop is still a mainstay of the Campustown community. Having served generations of gentlemen needing a clip, we are an institution that has many interesting facts and stories, such as these:
- Enoch opened this shoppe in 1914, the same year that some guy killed Archduke Ferdinand, starting a small skirmish called World War I.
- Enoch never married, but was rumoured to have been in a tryst with the same guy that killed Archduke Ferdinand.
- Carmine Vermicelli died in 1922, at the ripe old age of 134 after completing 129 years of alcoholism.
- During World War II, Enoch's shoppe was the only building in mainland America that suffered an aerial bombing. Enoch blamed the Germans, but many believe it was actually his customers.
- Each year we cut the hair of thousands of our clients, meaning we sweep up thousands of pounds of hair. This is important for companies that compile fun facts for people to read.
- We have never performed an appendectomy in our facility. Really! We haven't!
- You just spent seconds of your life that you will never get back reading this.
